Hi Folks,
I published a personal essay in Dialogue, which is available online at:
http://www.bycommonconsent.com/2005/08/dialogue_sneak_.html
The blog site Bycommonconsent.com wanted to do an interview with me, and that is now up as well. You can find it at:
http://www.bycommonconsent.com/2005/08/stephen_carter_.html#more
People are starting to comment on the essay and the interview. So if you're interested, take a look. The essay is about my continuing struggle with understanding the priesthood.
As an added bonus, you'll find out my true identity.
Cheers

I couldn't read it.
Oh, I wanted to. I started to. And just about the time I finished the part about your baptism, my mind wandered off to mine.
And, as it turns out, that's not really a happy memory of mine. I found myself getting really sad thinking about it and all the events that transpired immediately and much later afterward.
Funny how some people's warm happy memories are other people's trauma.
What I did read is beautifully written, as always. Thank you for sharing.

I will -- Just need to be in the right head space, ya know.
Right now, all my attention is distracted by watching Katrina trash the Gulf coast just west of me.
I so dodged a bullet.

For what it's worth, I had the privlege of reading this essay last December (and others...a cherished Christmas gift from flotsam), and it is beautiful.
I would encourage everyone on this board to take the time to read it. Masterfully written, poignant in it's insight, but mostly, it taps into the reality that we've all experienced in one form or fashion as we struggled with the weight of Mormonism.
Any Mormon who claims to NOT understand what flotsam says in this essay has not yet learned the art of honesty with self...
It would be a gift to Mormonism if all its members could be as thoughtfully reflective on the reality of their religious experience as flotsam is in this essay, rather than committed to the ruse that "all is well in Zion."

This really interests me. I read all of the comments to the essay announcement and I read all of the interview and comments for that.
Now to read the essay.
I will post later with my impressions.

Wow... it is so beautifully written. Thanks, Flotsam, for sharing the link. I forwarded it on to friends. I let my Dialogue subscription expire about a year ago because I was never getting them read. However, after this, I'm tempted to resubscribe. Thanks again.

I can't seem to access the essay on these internet cafe or library computers. Is there a better way to do it? I just can't seem to get it to come up on the screen....but I did enjoy your responses and the readers comments...you seem to have connected with the 'in' crowd of blog heaven. I recognize all the poster names from other blogs etc. Congrats on a successful essay...now if only I could read it.... :)
Okay...I just read it an university computer which had adobe reader...thanks flotsom for the great essay and I do have some thoughts but not for sharing now...take care....and thanks again...
