Awhile back, I did some reading about George Patrick Lee but I can no longer find a whole lot of information about him As best I rememer, he had one of the more interesting life stories among people connected with the church. A full blooded Navaho, he was, as best I can remember, adopted by a Mormon family and raised as a Mormon. He turned out to be a brilliant scholar and rose in the church to become a GA; the first of NA ancestry. For some reason or other, he became dienchanted with the church and began speaking out against it, particularly against its treatment of American Indians. At that point, we see a familiar story played out: He was accused of sexual misconduct and drummed out of the church.
Does anybody know more about him or what ultimately became of him. Because of my own Lamanite heritage (inside joke ), I have a special interest in NA ex-members.

George P Lee was a GA he was the man who allowed my father to return to the church after being ex-communicated. He was up here in Cardston for a stake or regional conference and he did the deed. That was not the only deed he did. (or was accused of doing) He was excommunicated because of his criticisms of the church. He felt that the church was not as pro-native as it was under Spencer W Kimball. That got him in big trouble, but then the bombshell dropped. He was accused of sexually molesting his niece(s). He was released from his duties and Ex’d. I am not sure of the timeline of everything, whether he was Ex’d after his criticisms and before the accusations, or if he was Ex’d after the accusations of the molestations. I remember George P Lee claimed he was innocent, but I am not sure what the results of the trial were. My father really liked him, but then again my father was a child molester too. So maybe that’s why they got along so famously.
Now that’s another story.

IIRC, Lee was convicted in court of molestation.
I met him once, in the interview process the church loves so well. He was still on the job at the time.
